Meet Joy Rabon, MA, LMFT,
CCTP, CIMHP
Joy Rabon is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Alabama and North Carolina. She is also a certified Clinical Trauma Professional and an Integrative Mental Health Professional. Additionally, she is a registered telehealth provider in Florida, offering virtual counseling across all three states.
With over 30 years experience in public, private, and school settings, Joy brings a rich and well-rounded perspective to her work in the mental health field. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida in 1996, followed by a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina in 2000. She later returned to Appalachian to complete coursework for School Counseling Licensure in 2010.
After nearly two decades in Boone, North Carolina, Joy moved to Dothan, Alabama in 2015. While Dothan serves as her home base, she affectionately refers to the Boone/Blowing Rock area as “home-home” and makes routine visits there. Her practice is now fully online, making therapy more accessible for clients across the state lines where she is licensed.
Joy’s style is relaxed, conversational, collaborative, and reflective. She engages directly with clients throughout their healing journey rather than acting as a distant observer. She integrates postmodern approaches like Narrative and Solution-Focused Therapy with holistic, systemic, and neuroscience informed practices and traditional methods to help clients find emotional and relational healing and balance.
Joy has a special interest in working with traumatic stress and takes a whole-person approach that integrates mind, body, brain, and spirit. She’s known for her down-to-earth, intuitive, and compassionate demeanor, as well as her creative ability to help clients shift perspectives. Through strong, supportive relationships, Joy creates a space where real growth can happen.
By intentionally keeping her practice small and simple, Joy is able to offer a more personal, one-on-one experience. Although she is listed as a provider with some nationwide group telehealth platforms, clients who choose to work with her directly through her private practice benefit from consistent, individualized care, avoiding confusion, delays, and privacy issues that can sometimes come with larger group practices or telehealth conglomerates.
In her free time, Joy enjoys spending time with her significant other, family, friends, her cats, bunny, and grand-kitty. Her hobbies include traveling, thrifting, unwinding with a comfort or mind bending and riveting TV series, and exploring nature. Joy is currently learning German, finding it a fun way to enhance her travel experiences and connect with different cultures.
Joy’s goal is to provide a compassionate, personalized space where clients can heal and grow, experiencing greater balance and well-being in their lives.
